The Pillars of PRIM&R Outstanding Poster Award
The Pillars of PRIM&R designation was established in 2006 to honor two long-serving and dedicated members of PRIM&R’s Board of Directors: Louis Lasagna, MD, and Herman Wigodsky, MD, PhD. The Pillars of PRIM&R now also include Sanford Chodosh, MD; Harry Rozmariek, DVM, PhD, DACLAM; Warren Ashe, PhD, and Joseph J. Byrne, MD.
In 2007 the Pillars of PRIM&R Outstanding Poster Award was established, to acknowledge outstanding projects or efforts that reflect a commitment to PRIM&R’s mission and core values. The award, given in honor of the Pillars of PRIM&R, recognizes efforts designed to improve human research protections programs (HRPPs) or animal care and use (ACU) programs through better education, tools, procedures, practices, or which contribute to empirical research or scholarship in the research ethics field.
Features of the Award include:
- PRIM&R has a Call for Poster Abstracts Program for both the AER and IACUC Conferences. Each year, one abstract may be selected from each Poster Abstract Program to be designated as the "Pillars of PRIM&R Outstanding Poster Award Recipient."
- The award includes complimentary conference registration and hotel for the lead poster author to display their poster at the AER or IACUC Conference; up to $750 to cover travel costs; a one-year complimentary PRIM&R membership; and one complimentary group webinar registration.
- Onsite at the AER and IACUC Conferences, the Pillars of PRIM&R Outstanding Poster Award Recipients will be recognized by a certificate on their poster board, acknowledgement in the on-site conference guide, and each poster author will receive a certificate. The awardees will have the opportunity to present their results in a PRIM&R Newsletter or Ampersand blog post.
Evaluation Criteria
All poster abstracts submitted to the AER or IACUC Conference Poster Abstract Program will automatically be considered for the Pillars of PRIM&R Outstanding Poster Award. The winning abstract will be selected by the Conference Planning Committee (for IACUC) or the Poster Abstract Subcommittee (for AER) based on the following criteria:
- Is the project relevant to PRIM&R’s mission to advance the ethical conduct of research through education, research, scholarship, or the development of resources and processes that support the work of the oversight community?
- To what extent does the project improve the work of human subjects protections and/or animal care and use personnel, or bring new research findings or scholarship to the field?
The review committees reserve the right to select the most qualified candidate for the Pillars of PRIM&R Award based on the listed evaluation criteria.
