FAQ

The application fee for the certification exam is $350 for PRIM&R members and $475 for nonmembers.

Certification is valid for five years. You can renew it either by retaking and passing the exam, or by fulfilling the requirements to recertify through continuing education credits.

You may download the CPIA Candidate Handbook which includes the Content Outline being covered on the examination. You may also refer to CPIA Facebook Group, and the CPIA Group on LinkedIn, where credential holders post inquiries about the exam and the credential. You may also watch the Earning the CPIA Credential: Is It Right for You, Right Now? webinar, originally broadcast on May 12, 2015, to learn more about exam preparation strategies.

The CPIA certification program is sponsored by PRIM&R through the Council for Certified Professional IACUC Administrators (CCPIA). As described in the CCPIA Policies and Procedures Manual, the Council is responsible for reviewing questions for the CPIA exam, maintaining a registry of certified individuals, revoking certification when necessary. Applied Measurement Professionals administers the CPIA exam.

If you are unsure if a program counts for continuing education credit, you may refer to the recertification by continuing education guidelines. If you are still unsure about the program at hand, you may submit a description, faculty list, and/or agenda of the event to [email protected]. PRIM&R will then pass along this information to the CPIA Council for them to review and determine the program's eligibility for credit.

If you are interested in sitting on the CPIA Council, you may contact us for more information. PRIM&R's Certification Committee formally appoints Council members to three-year terms in accordance with the organization's term limit policies. The makeup of the Council must be representative of the credentialed population and must comprise a diversity of professional affiliations and perspectives, as well as a diversity of gender, race, and geographic origins.
